Impact: 60 people // 1 day // 60 Outdoor Activity Days

As part of a wider programme, the IGOT Grant will help us go on two ‘get-to-know-you’ Wild Walks, and to host a post-lockdown Family Camping trip to teach key skills and have fun outdoors.

Working with BAME, low-income and single parents we will recruit six families to work with deeply, plus a further 60 who will benefit from our resources, ‘How-to’ videos and support via our online groups.

Our proven methodology sees families moving from almost no time in green spaces towards going outdoors every day… from short walks in a local park to their first independent camping trip.

About the Organisation

As Outdoor People, we build community around the idea that going outdoors everyday is as important as getting a good night’s sleep, especially for children and families. We are a Social Enterprise, matching surplus from contracts and sales with grants to support our Outdoor Families programmes. Recognising that adults are the gatekeepers to children experiences, we work with the whole family, so together they: – enjoy the outdoors and create shared memories – build up their skills and confidence to go outside regularly, visiting green spaces in their community – feel they can go on bigger adventures, with the kit and knowledge needed to go camping, with their family or with friends. We are about to move to a new community shop in the centre of town with a cafe attached.
