Communications Manager (Job Advert)

Surfing until sundown after a productive morning? We are looking for a passionate and independent outdoor storyteller who can live the dream while getting the job done. Will you strengthen our team?

It’s Great Out There (IGOT) is a European not for profit collaboration launched by the outdoor industry to increase public awareness of the benefits of outdoor activities.

Opening Up the Outdoors (OUTO) is a not for profit initiative that focuses on the continued inclusion, education, and enjoyment of outdoor spaces by people of the global majority. 

Both initiatives have a joint secretariat and are looking for a full-time remote Communications Manager to strengthen the team. 

Responsibilities

  • Ensure IGOT and OUTO messages are communicated consistently and engagingly.
  • Ensure content produced is on-brand, consistent in terms of style, quality, and tone of voice, and optimised for search and user experience for all channels.
  • Identify gaps and create inspiring and engaging content, and campaigns ensuring the content is written to a high standard and incorporates input from Coalition members and other key stakeholders.
  • Actively seek out content that is compelling and beneficial to IGOT and OUTO audiences, lead the planning, creation/editing, and delivery of that content across all our channels.
  • Work in close collaboration with the Coalition member brands and grants recipients to ensure excellent storytelling around the Outdoor Activity Days projects including video.
  • Contribute to the operational management of the Outdoor Activity Days grant programme.
  • Shape Coalition presence at key events including ISPO, ISPO Outdoor, EOS and the Kendal Mountain Film Festival in view of new member acquisition.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated self-starter, with the ability to work in a team environment with minimal oversight.
  • Proven, extensive experience in communications management, preferably in an international environment.
  • Natural communicator, with attention to detail and good copywriting skills that always finds the best angle for the story;
  • Excellent digital skills incl. graphic design editing. Video editing skills are a plus.
  • Highly proficient English speaker (both written and verbal) and fluent in at least one other EU language.
  • Demonstrated passion for the outdoors.
